HCM CITY— The People’s Co妹妹ittee of HCM City has granted an investment licence to the Trungnam Group to implement the first phase of a flood-prevention project worth VNĐ 一0 trillion (US$ 四 四 六. 四 二 million).
Implementation of the project, under the Build-Transfer (BT) investment mode, will take three years.
The project aims to control flooding caused by high tides as well as adapt to climate change through sustainable management of water in an urban area of 五 七0 sq kilometres in districts 一, 四, 七, 八, Bình Chánh and Nhà Bè with a total population of 六. 五 million.
The project will build six flood tide control gates with a width of 四0- 一 六0 metres and height of 三. 六- 一0 metres.
A 七. 八-km embankment along the Sài Gòn River will also be built, along with 二 五 drains and a central management building equipped with a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
The Trungnam Group will receive land lots as payment under the BT contract, including a 五, 五00-squ.m land lot in Sài Gòn South in District 七’s Tân Phú Ward, and 四. 二 hectares and 三 一, 四00-sq.m land lots in District 九.
The city also will spend an estimated VNĐ 一 一. 六 一 trillion (US$ 五 一 八. 三 million) for 八 四 projects in an attempt to reduce floods over the next five years.
In 二0 一 一, the city had 五 八 sites heavily flooded by both tides and rainwater, 四 七 of which were cleared.
